ROCKRESIST GEN1 ATHLETIC SOCKS: COMPREHENSIVE CARE & MAINTENANCE GUIDE
This document serves as the official care manual to protect the technical integrity of your RockResist GEN1 Socks. The body of the sock consists of a durable cotton-terylene blend, while the specialized, dual-configuration apron utilizes a high-performance polyurethane (PU) debris barrier.
⚠️ CRITICAL WARNING: NO MACHINE CYCLES
The polyurethane apron relies on structural flexibility to snap into place and block trail debris. Machine washing and tumble drying will rapidly destroy this component.
• Thermal Delamination: Dryer heat permanently weakens the polymer structure. This causes the polyurethane barrier to warp, crack, or peel away from the fabric base.
• Mechanical Stress: The twisting, stretching, and friction of a washing machine agitator tears and overstretches the apron. This destroys its ability to hold its shape against your heel collar.
• Chemical Breakdown: Aggressive standard detergents strip away the chemical stability of the polyurethane area over time. This makes it brittle or prematurely sticky.
CORE CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Always use a strict Hand Wash and Line Dry routine. Take care not to aggressively scrub, twist, or pull at the polyurethane flap itself.
Hand Washing Steps
1. Fill Basin: Mix a small amount of mild liquid detergent or specialized sports wash into cold or lukewarm water.
2. Soak Gently: Submerge the socks completely for 10 to 15 minutes to loosen trail dirt.
3. Agitate Fabric: Gently swish the socks around. Lightly rub the cotton-terylene heel and toe sections only.
4. Avoid Twisting: Do not wring or twist the fabric forcefully to squeeze out water. Press the socks against the basin wall instead.
5. Clear Rinse: Rinse thoroughly under running cold water until all soap residue is completely gone.
Line Drying Steps
1. Extract Water: Roll the socks flat inside a clean towel and press down gently to absorb excess moisture.
2. Hang by Toes: Clip the socks to the line by the toes rather than the elastic cuff to protect the leg opening from stretching out.
3. Avoid Heat: Dry completely flat or on a line away from direct, intense sunlight, radiators, or active heat sources. Do not iron or dry clean.
Neutralizing Stubborn Trail Odors
• Dry Method (Baking Soda): Place clean, dry socks inside a breathable bag with 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Seal the bag overnight to absorb sweat odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) without liquids. Shake the residue out the next morning.
• Wet Method (Sports-Wash Soak): Soak heavily soiled socks for 15 minutes in a cold-water bath infused with an enzyme-based sports detergent or tech wash. This safely strips away sweat oils without hurting specialized laminates.
APPROVED TECHNICAL DETERGENTS
Use cleaners that are residue-free, pH-neutral, and formulated without harsh chemicals, heavy perfumes, or optical brighteners. Standard laundry detergents leave behind chemical coatings that trap sweat odors.
• Note: Use only half a teaspoon of these highly concentrated formulas per hand wash basin.
Cost Comparison
The pricing below reflects current standard container options. Because hand-washing single items uses significantly less detergent than a full washing machine cycle, your actual cost per hand-wash will drop to just pennies per basin.
